Fort Giron: Beggars

Beggars

Fort Giron has a number of Beggars. These men and women seek alms from various persons, Unless otherwise noted, they sleep in the docklands. These beggars can be useful to players as they have eyes and ears (well most of them) and they know that people pay for info. They can be found in any of the districts as they keep moving while working.

Leslie Wiesinger

F, one armed, 3 HP. Good source of info on smuggling.

Remy Bossuet

M, Old man with a stick, 2 HP. will Recall half remembered history if paid.

Jakob

M, Cleric 3rd level, 14 HP. Jakob is actually a cleric who pretends to be downtrodden. He will help anyone (short of joining the party) to those who help protect the downtrodden. He takes his vow of poverty seriously. He is always found in the Docklands.

Konstantin Lang

M, A out of work actor who uses stage makeup to make his face disfigured, 3 HP. He looks at begging as a well paying acting gig.

Palla Calandri

F, Young girl (~12) who is perhaps one of the best sources of info on what goes on, 4 HP. She always tells it in a long story, and insists that were-rats are watching her.

Mabillia Ménard

F, A young mother with 2 young kids and a dead husband. She works for the local thieves guild.

Anna-Lena Weber

F, Wererat, 20 HP. She is a spy for the Rat King (Castle OeBerg Faction). She has been tasked with making Palla Calandri into a wererat.

Verena Hofbauer

F, blind woman, 4 HP, mid 40s. She has lived in the Fort walls for many years, and owns a small home in the new town district. Older townfolks know why she is blind, but keep it very private. Anyone taking advantage of her will find themselves unwelcome in the Fort.

Julian Egger

M , mid 20s, 4 HP. He is the "Town Drunk"

Michael Fritz

M, Mid 20s, 5th Level Paladin, 28 HP. He pretends to be the town drunk with Egger, He has been ordered by a Mithras (Lawful) Bishop to go "Undercover" and hunt down agents of Chaos that are in the fast growing Fort Giron. His gear is kept in the Godhouse in Oldtown (+2 Sword, +1 Plate, +1 Shield, plus some healing potions.) He may join a party if they have shown themselves of quality, goodness, and they seek to eliminate one of the number of Chaos aligned temples or cults in the area.

HighVale: Calendar

 Calendar for Highvale

Time is generally viewed as the domain of Cronos, the Dragon of Time (one of the deities)

The year consists of 360 days, split into twelve months. Weeks are not used, instead most use X day of (insert month name). Calendars are both represented in a linear fashion, and also as a circle, with each degree being a day. It is common for Calendars to have a dragon motif, to celebrate Cronos.

The Months of the year are the following.

As a note, from the mid part of First frost to First seed (15 day of First frost to 1st day of First Seed) winter weather makes it almost impossible to travel long distances without great effort, and generally adventuring ends in these winter months.  Highvale lake ice does not break up till the first part of Rain, and going past Pek Falls is not recommended till Second Seed.

Highvale lake's ice is famously thin and treacherous in spots in the winter due to warm water from geological activity under the lake.   Trying to cross the frozen lake has a real risk (1 in 6 per hex) of hitting a thin spot and falling in.).

This provides one of the major issues of "Clearing" Castle OeBerg, in the sense for nearly 4 months of the year, it will be able to restock and rebuild in the deep winter snows.

Pin Oak Trading Post

This is a major location in the Village of Lakeside, and thus might be visited a lot by the PCs, so it will have a keyed map.  Lakeside is a logical location for a basecamp for players if they do not want to go all the way back to the main Fort.

Regional Hexmap: Highvale

Castle OeBerg will be placed in a "Microsetting" called the Highvale.

Starting Town: Fort Giron

While the party may choose a smaller village closer to Castle OeBerg to be a base camp, Fort Giron will be the primary "Starting Town" for players to rest, recover, trade, and recruit.   I prefer to have SOME reality to my starting town, so the town is around 5,000 persons and I hope to flesh it out a fair bit, so even if no one likes the dungeon, Fort Giron might be useful for someone in need of a good starting town.

Welcome

This is about a almost thank less task.

I am going to Build a Megadungeon.

Its not easy to do this, more so when you have real life to deal with.  That said, I do have some outlines.

1)  The Megadungeon will be called "Castle OeBerg"

The name comes from a pun of sorts.   I enjoy watching Biathalon, and also notably woman's Biathlon.  But in simple terms there is something charming about watching talented women cross country skiing, then shooting firearms at tiny targets.   It more meat and potato fun then Football or Futbol.

Two of the best in this sport is the Öberg Sisters (Hanna and Elvira) who are Swedish sisters who compete at the top level including gold medals. Öberg is written as Oeberg in English, and since I enjoy the Original editions of the classic fantasy role playing game.   It becomes a pun as I plan for the game to be written in that style of rule set.   There will be random references to Sweden, skiing, and so on as Easter Eggs.

Oeberg Sisters

2) Will be written/published for Swords and Wizardry Complete

The nice thing about TSR gaming is for the most part, even if the rules come in various flavors, everything written from the 1970s though around 1990 was at least somewhat compatible.   Some of the rules might not be the same, but for the most part a skilled referee could convert to whatever was played.   I like the Old School Feel (5E is fine to play, but I would HATE to run it),and that is what I run.   While there is a number of options (OSE is very popular, Labyrinth Lord has a lot published for it, I am looking forward to some new rulesets being boiled up) the Swords and Wizardry is where I prefer to be as it brings in some new world ease to old school playing.   I chose complete as it easy to convert complete to any other system and has had a lot of support from Frog God Games in the past.

The Bulk of the items will be likely released under the Swords & Wizardry revised license, but some items may be included that are with the OGL (Mostly some selected monsters)

3) I will borrow from others megadungeons, including my failed attempts

I have two half built megadungons (Dreadmoor, Blackgate) in various versions, and there are now a number of published megadungeons.  I am not going to say that I am beyond borrowing ideas from myself or others.

4) The Goal is to do something daily

Megadungons are huge projects, and I have a lot of real life duties.   One thing that is best is to just make sure to try to add something daily.   Even if it keying a single room.
